- Less Cleaning! More time for family fun!

These days we are all so busy and have so many demands on our time that we sometimes feel like we are just not getting to spend enough quality time with our spouses or significant others and children. Quality time is time you get to just hang out or go on an outing or do a fun activity – it does not count as quality time if you are spending the time cleaning the house sending everyone off with a task to complete whether it be vacuuming the living room or cleaning the kitchen.
There is no question that keeping your house clean takes time. For the average 3 bedroom, 25 bathroom home to thoroughly clean your house without stopping to watch T.V. or take breaks it can easily take you 5 hours. It will take you about an hour to clean the master bedroom and bathroom, another hour for the second bathroom and two additional bedrooms and then another hour or so to clean up the common areas upstairs and downstairs including picking up, vacuuming and dusting. Cleaning the kitchen can take the longest because you need to wipe down the countertops, clean out the microwave, clean the stove, wipe down all the appliances and cabinet doors.
So depending on how often you like your house cleaned you could be spending 20 hours a month cleaning your house if you like it cleaned weekly or 10 hours a month if you like it done every two weeks (bi-weekly). Perhaps you are only spending a few hours and feel guilty all the time because you are not doing a better job of the housekeeping.
So, clearly you could spend a great deal more quality time with your family if you outsourced the house cleaning to a maid service. It can be hard to find the money in your budget to spend on some help but perhaps as a family you could come up with some ways to cut back in other areas. Your kids will be willing to give up a few treats now and then if it means they don’t have to spend weekends doing cleaning chores.
